Church Opens Inn To Stranded Union Students

JACKSON, Tenn, (AP) -- A Jackson hotel that was going to close down will now help house Union University students whose dormitories were destroyed by last week's tornado.

The Old English Inn is owned by Englewood Baptist Church.

Church members voted unanimously Sunday to convert the inn for about 300 students at the Southern Baptist school.

According to a university news release, about 180 women will live on the top floor and 120 men on the bottom floor of the hotel through the end of the year.

Five of the 51 students injured in the storm remained hospitalized Sunday night in the wake of last week's storm.

Nearly 1,100 of the university's residential students lost their homes in the storm. Classes resume next week.
