Beshear Asks For Federal Aid After Deadly Storms

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Gov. Steve Beshear is asking for federal assistance in the wake of last week's deadly storm that ripped through parts of Kentucky.

Beshear has sent President Bush a letter asking him to declare Kentucky a federal disaster area. With the designation, certain residents and businesses would be eligible for federal aide to help with cleanup.

Seven people died in Kentucky and more were injured in the Feb. 6 storm.

Nine counties listed in Beshear's request are: Allen, Christian, Fayette, Hardin, Hart, Meade, Mercer, Monroe and Muhlenberg.

More counties could be added to the list later.
