State Will Help Match Money For Tornado Relief

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Phil Bredesen has announced that the state will supply matching money for local governments seeking federal disaster aid.

The governor announced the $2.5 million in matching money at a Thursday conference organized by The Associated Press and the Tennessee Press Association.

Bredesen said the state money will ease the burden on governments as they try to recover from the damage from the storms.

Local governments approved for federal aid must pay 25 percent to draw down 75 percent of federal assistance. The state money will help cover that 25 percent share.
