NASHVILLE, Tenn.- It's not just a big day for the Titans, there were plenty of area guys waiting to hear their names called, and they didn't have to sit very long.
Chris Willisms from Vanderbilt was the 14th pick. He was part of a run on offensive linemen near the middle of the first round. Saturday, he watched the draft in Nashville, and is thrilled to be headed to Chicago.
"I can't even describe it. I'm about speechless, and if you know me you know I don't get speechless too often. I'm just extremely ecstatic. It's like a dream come true," he said. I assume they're bringing me in to start. Usually throughout the first round picks they want you to start, especially that high. I'm coming in with the mind set of a starter, and I'm going to work my butt off to get there.
The New England Patriots picked up Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo with the 10th pick in the draft. The Vol led the SEC in tackles with 140 last season. He is the first Vol linebacker to go in the first round since Al Wilson in 1999.
And with the 16th overall pick, the Arizona Cardinals targeted TSU's Dominique Rodgers Cromartie. His stock skyrocketed after the season ended in the senior bowl and the combine. Now the corner back is headed to the desert. He's the first player from TSU to be picked in the first round since 1974.
