Crime Of The Week: July 8, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police call it some of the clearest surveillance video they've ever seen.

They hope it will solve an armed robbery at a Mrs. Winners Chicken and Biscuits restaurant in West Nashville.

A call to Crime Stoppers could earn someone some cash.

The robbery happened on a Sunday at the restaurant on Eighth Avenue near Wedgewood Avenue just after 11 a.m.

The crime was captured by the restaurant's surveillance cameras.

A man is seen walking into the restaurant and pulling a gun on the employee behind the counter. He points it at a female clerk and demands money, according to police.

The man got the cash and ran out of the restaurant.

Police are looking for witnesses such as people who were outside the restaurant.

"Even on Sunday morning there should have been a lot of traffic on the street at that time," said Mike Moss, Metro detective.

Police are also hoping the quality of the video will help them capture the man. It is very clear.

A witness told police the suspect was about 5 feet 4 inches and weighed 150 pounds.

"Everybody pretty much agreed," Moss said. "It's some of the best video we've ever seen, as far as robbery video."

Police said if anyone knows who the man is call Crime Stoppers.

They said it's important to get him off the street before he hurts someone.

"The robberies, they appear to be getting more violent," Moss said. "We've had a few people killed already this year due to robberies, and this guy was armed with a weapon and we need to get him off the street."

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for clues leading to an arrest and prosecution in this case. The phone number is 74-CRIME. Callers will remain anonymous.
