NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Rutherford County sheriff's detective involved in a fatal crash with an 11-year-old pedestrian was not intoxicated, sources told NewsChannel 5.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted blood tests after allegations were made that Detective Sgt. Ron Killings may have been drinking at the time. Tests were negative for alcohol or any drugs.
Lekeisha White was hit crossing Bradyville Pike Thursday night.
A witness told investigators that they saw Killings throw what appeared to be a bottle from the window of his car. The child's family claimed the officer may have been drinking.
Sources said blood tests prove he was not drunk or drinking.
Killings was placed on administrative leave during the investigation. If it's proven that he was speeding, Killings could face additional charges.
Rutherford County Sheriff Truman Jones said he continues to stand behind Killings. Investigators said the girl darted in front of his vehicle and he never saw her.
