Security Guard Pleads Not Guilty In Self-Defense Killing
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The armed security guard accused of shooting a man outside a south Nashville sports bar in Nipper's Corner faced a judge Thursday.
Thursday morning Jeremy Holmes pleaded not guilty to killing 34-year-old Adam Villegas in self defense.
In May, police said Holmes was trying to clear out a south Nashville parking lot at closing time when Villegas refused to get out of his car, according to Holmes. That's when the two men began to argue, and Holmes reportedly shot Villegas.
Holmes told police he felt Villegas was going to run him over with his car, so he shot in self defense.
Villegas died at the scene.
Holmes surrendered to police after a grand jury indicted him on the murder charge. He will appear in court again on Oct. 1.
