Nashville Man Finds Body On His Porch

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Imagine living in a neighborhood where police have been called more than three dozen times to your street.

That's just in one year, and it's happening in a North Nashville neighborhood.

One homeowner has found shooting victims lying in his yard on two separate occasions.

On Tuesday morning, he found a dead man lying on his porch.

Police are looking for suspects. Three people were shot in the same neighborhood, maybe on the same street.

It's not the first time violence has come to this part of North Nashville.

"That's where they were sitting there shooting dice, so evidently people came from behind my house," said Quinita Starnes.

Starnes said her children were in bed and she was watching television when she heard a dozen gun shots coming from the front of the house.

"They had to stand right here and probably got to shooting. Everybody just took off running," Starnes said.

Three men were shot. One went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the other to Nashville General Hospital at Meharry.

Police came and went. Then on Tuesday morning, a homeowner who lives about a block away got a big surprise.

"I came outside and he was just lying there," said Darrell Bowers.

The third victim was dead lying face down on his front porch.

This is the second shooting victim he's found in his yard this year.

"A few months ago a guy got shot and was lying in the driveway," he said.

Violent crime has definitely hit home. Police have been called to this section of 17th Avenue North 42 times this year.

There have been reports of shots fired, assaults, fights, and robberies.

Bowers wishes victims would stop showing up at his front door.

"I don't know. I guess they think this is the hospital," Bowers said.

Police are not sure if Monday night's shootings were related. There may have been two separate incidents in the same block on the same night.

Regardless of the number of incidents the results are still the same. Monday night's double shooting happened at 1706 17th Ave. North and it was not the first time police have been called to that address. In one year, they have been called 16 times.
