Crime Of The Week: Oct. 21, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police need the public's help solving a murder that happened outside a club in downtown Nashville.

A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Firm Nightclub in May.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 to anyone who can provide information about the killers.

Police said dozens of people could have witnessed the shooting.

Around 3 a.m., police said, Brandon Muhammad walked out of the Firm Nightclub at 820 Palmer Place. He'd just argued with another person inside the club.

"We believe there was an exchange of gunfire. Right now, we're still investigating if it was self defense or was it a purposeful shooting," said Metro detective Joe Williams.

Police said Muhammad was hit by several bullets.

He jumped into a silver car, which took him to a hospital where he later died.

Witnesses said the shooters sped away in another car.

"I think it was a Chrysler 300 that was leaving the scene at a high rate of speed along with a white vehicle," Williams said.

Police are hoping more witnesses will come forward about the murder. The parking lot was full.

"That night it was completely packed full of young men and women and their cars.  We had an exchange of multiple gunfire so any of these patrons could have been shot at this point," he said.

Police said they were lucky not to get hit with flying bullets.

Several cars were damaged by flying bullets and sustained a lot of damage.

If anyone has information about the shooting and murder at the Firm Nightclub call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Callers should not fear retaliation because they can contact Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous. Callers could earn up to $1,000 cash.
