Crime Of The Week: Oct. 28, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man was stabbed to death walking to his car.

Metro police don't know if the crime was random or if the victim knew his attacker.

A call to Crime Stoppers could be worth up to $1,000.

Police said Jose Garcia was at the Tropicana Club on Gallatin Pike in Madison before he was killed.

"He was actually out with some friends and he ended up at this nightclub here at 936 South Gallatin Pike," said Metro detective Dean Haney, who is investigating the murder.

He said Garcia was at the club with some friends on Aug. 2. Early in the morning there was an altercation inside the club and Garcia left.

He went one way and his friends another.

"As he was walking toward the place where his vehicle was someone apparently got out of either a vehicle or was following him and stabbed him several times in the neck," Haney said.

Police said the location was about a 15-minute walk from the club in the 800 block of Denson Avenue.

"Right here is actually where his body was found," Haney said.  "You can still see part of the stain right here from the blood from the victim."

Haney said he needs the public's help especially from the Hispanic community to solve this crime.

Police said it's important to get this guy off the street.

"It was a very violent attack, and we just don't want this to happen to anybody else," he said.

If anyone knows who killed Jose Garcia in Madison, call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers will remain anonymous and could earn up to $1,000 cash.

Police said the only way anyone would know if you called Crime Stoppers is if you told somebody.
