Posting Cameras Throughout Neighborhood For Safety

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A North Nashville neighborhood is fighting against crime in a unique way.

Residents hope an extra set of eyes will keep the bad guys away.

Many neighbors in the Parkwood Subdivision have decided to buy bullet cameras. The cameras fit into the palm of the hand. Neighbors hope it will keep an eye on their homes.

Constance Smith still can't shake the fear from a robbery in her driveway two years ago. She has lived in the community for more than 30 years. She said those 30 years have come with a lot of changes.

"We need protection out here," she said.

Metro Councilman Walter Hunt hopes the new cameras deter crime. The cameras are attached to videocassette recorders to capture every move.

The cameras will cost about $200, an investment Smith wishes she made two years ago. Hunt said several dozen neighbors have already expressed interest in the cameras.

If it goes well in this neighborhood, others will have the option as well. If anyone is interested in getting a camera for their home, contact Councilman Walter Hunt.
