NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Crime Stoppers hopes the public can help Metro police identify robbers who shot a convenience store clerk on West End.
The robbery was captured on tape. It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Mapco on West End near Vanderbilt University.
Two armed men ordered the clerk to open the register. At first, the clerk refused.
"There was an argument and that suspect and the clerk ended up getting into a physical struggle and the clerk was shot in the leg and then struck in the head with the pistol," said Metro detective Curt Capps.
The clerk continued to fight back and broke free. He ran out the door.
The robbers came out behind him and ran into the darkness.
"We're hoping someone will recognize the suspect's face and/or voice of the suspect. It was clear," Capps said.
In a tape released by police, the robber's voice is audible. Also, a gun is heard going off during the fight.
Police said the suspects are extremely dangerous. The clerk is lucky he wasn't killed.
"They've shown they have no respect for human life at this point," Capps said. "Not only did the go into rob the store they beat and shot the clerk and we feel they could kill someone in the future if they're not brought in.
One of the suspects was wearing blue jeans that had a large white stripe running up one leg and down the other.
