Crime of The Week: Dec. 16, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police are still looking for the men who killed a man in North Nashville this summer.

They hope someone will call Nashville Crime Stoppers to identify the suspects.

Ricky Hanlon was shot and killed sometime at night on July 31. He was inside a home at 3219 Torbett Avenue in North Nashville.

Witnesses told police Hanlon arranged to buy some drugs earlier in the evening.

When the dealers came to the home they tried to rob him. One of the suspects had a handgun.

"There was a scuffle over the pistol, and at the last moment the armed subject backed up and fired one shot striking Mr. Hanlon, causing his death," said Metro detective Jim Fuqua.

The suspects ran away, but they left an important piece of evidence inside the home.

"What the suspects didn't realize is there was another person in the house and they had a point of view where they viewed this entire incident," Fuqua said.

Police are hoping the one suspect who was not armed will come forward and help them solve the murder.

"We'd like to have this man come forward and tell us what happened.  We don't have any reason to believe he was involved," he said.

Police said it's important to get the man who killed Hanlon off the street. He's considered to be dangerous.

"Obviously, at least the one that was armed has no respect for someone's life.  I don't suspect this will be the last time this happens if we don't find him," Fuqua said.

If anyone has information about the murder of Ricky Hanlon in North Nashville call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Callers will remain anonymous and the information could be worth up to $1,000 cash.
