NASHVILLE, Tenn. - One of the best places to keep your money Safe & Sound is the grocery store.
Humans are creatures of habit. As a result we typically buy the same thing at the grocery store week in and week out. If you can be flexible there are some major deals to be found.
When it comes to finding grocery story deals, Catrina Christner knows her stuff. Christner is the manager of the Bellemeade Publix.
"We're all about passing savings to customers and let them know - how to help them shop on a weekly and daily basis on how to save money," she says.
Shopper Marilyn Brown's has learned how to save money because of her budget.
"I'm on a fixed income so I don't have much choice," says Brown.
Saving money on groceries starts before you even walk through the door. Check each store's website and download coupons, then make a list of the items you need - and the store that offers those items for less.
Before you even pick up your first item, pick up the brochures and coupons that most stores display in their entry ways.
"We have customers do great with that weekly who save $50 to $100 just by shopping the coupons and looking at the ad," says Christner.
Pay attention to the labels, and follow the signs. Christner says stores know you're looking for a deal.
"Usually you can tell because they'll have a big sign in front of it," says Brown.
"Read the labels and compare the prices. Compare the ounces that you're getting and see what volume you're getting for your dollar," says shopper Tracy Pangelinan.
Saving money often requires changing your behavior, by switching to between different brands depending on what's on sale.
"It's definitely all about changing your habits - creating new ways to think creatively. How can I save money this week it, and it makes a huge difference," says Christner.
Sometimes you can find coupons for items that the store already has on sale. You get the coupon discount and the store discount. It's an easy way to save some big cash.
Some stores, like Kroger, will even send coupons to your cell phone.
