Crime of the Week: March 3, 2009

HERMITAGE, Tenn. - Police are looking for help in an unsolved robbery at a pharmacy in Hermitage. The crime was caught on tape. Police said this was one suspect you don't see everyday.

The robbery happened at the CVS Pharmacy at 4402 Lebanon Pike. It was 8:45 p.m. on February 9, 2009.

A woman walked to the counter and asked the clerk for a carton of Newport Menthol cigarettes.

When the clerk turned around to get them the woman pulled out a pistol and demanded money from the cash register.

"The clerk informs her that the register is empty. Again the woman demands her to deliver the money - that she's not kidding," said Detective Robert Allen with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

They moved to another register and the clerk took out cash. The robber reached over the counter and put the cash and the cigarettes into a bag and left.

"At the time when she leaves the store there is a white vehicle sitting outside which we believe to be a late model SUV, possibly a Honda or Isuzu in make," said Allen.

The robber got into the passenger side of the vehicle.

From the surveillance video she looks like a white woman in her 30s.

She wore a black coat and a black stocking cap.

Police said they don't see a lot of women committing armed robberies. Investigators believe the CVS robbery is the only robbery the woman has committed.

"We believe it's based on the fact that times are hard. We understand people are doing desperate acts to make ends meet, to put food on the table," said Allen.

Police hope the robber will feel guilty and confess to the crime. They also hope the person driving the SUV will come forward and identify the woman.

If you have information about the robbery of the CVS Pharmacy on Lebanon Pike call Crime Stoppers.

The Crime Stoppers phone number is 74-CRIME. Calls will remain anonymous.
