A man was found dead inside his Davidson County home, and police believe he was murdered by a burglar.

According to Metro Nashville Police officials, 39-year-old Marvin Lee Hughes was found shot to death in his Misty Cape Cove home in Hermitage.

Hughes body was found by his 10-year-old niece who came to the residence at 3:45 p.m.

A neighbor reported hearing a loud bang that may well have been a gunshot between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Family members believe Hughes had just gotten home from his overnight job at a Nissan manufacturing plant, Monday morning.

Detectives believed that the burglar entered the residence through an unlocked door. The upper level was ransacked.

"It's very devastating for the whole family," said Hughes' sister-in-law Towana Powell. "For her, for the boys, my daughter who found him, my nephew. All of the family. It's devastating for the whole family."

A pair of Air Jordan athletic shoes and a PlayStation console were stolen. Powell had harsh words for whoever killed her family member.

"[They're] a monster," she said. "Why would you do something to someone, take their life over material things. Something that he so hard for for him and his family. I just ask them to come and turn themselves in."

Police also asked anyone in the community knowing of or seeing a person who just today came into the possession of Air Jordan shoes or a PlayStation console is asked to immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

A spokesperson for Nissan USA released this statement:

"We are deeply saddened by the death of an employee from our Smyrna Manufacturing and Assembly Plant. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time."
