Dickson County Looking To Add New Ambulance And Fire Station

Dickson County is looking to add a seventh volunteer fire and ambulance station and to be run by the county in the southern area of the County off West Iron Hill Road.

"I think we need one out here, I really do," Raymond Hudgins, a resident on West Iron Hill Road, said.

While some cities and towns run their own volunteer fire departments, the county also responds to many of the fires and EMS calls throughout the county.

At this time, the closest fire and ambulance station to the southern region of the County is in the city of Dickson, and due to the growth of the city and county, county officials think it's important to have a department that can serve the area south of I-40 more specifically.

"Because of the growth in the city of Dickson and traffic issues, it's really hard to get emergency services through Dickson down to that portion of the county," Dickson County mayor Bob Rial said.

The new fire and ambulance station will have a final vote for approval on Monday, and if approved, the city plans to spend around $450,000 in excess funds from a county savings account gathered through money saved in good government spending and an excess of revenue, meaning taxpayers will not have to front the bill.

The land proposed is currently owned by the Dickson County Water Authority, and they are working with county officials on a fair deal for the property.

If approved, the county hopes to have the new fire station open by July 1, 2017.

The fire department would be staffed with volunteers, while the ambulance portion would be operated 24/7 by paid employees.
