A free medical clinic served about 500 patients in just two days inside a Columbia middle school this weekend. The event was hosted by Remote Area Medical, a non-profit organization that travels across the country to provide free dental, vision, and medical services to those in need.

"It’s very humbling because you know that what you’re doing carries a lot of weight," said Nicole Roddy, an optometry student who volunteered her services all weekend. "Because you know it’s going to impact their life and give them opportunities they wouldn’t have had otherwise."

Roddy said the event also gives students an intensive learning experience.

"You see a wide range of disease, a wide range of refractive errors. It’s a great learning experience, so we love that part," she said.

Remote Area Medical stops in Maury County once every two years.
