The owner of a horse drawn carriage service speaking out after a picture of her horse went viral online, amid allegations of animal cruelty.
Preshias Harris, the woman who posted the photo, said it shows a starving horse in need of help, with the horse's ribcage and hipbone visible.
"I've been here almost 25 years, this is the first time I've seen anything like that," Harris said. "I think it's the shock factor because I wasn't expecting it."
But the horse's owner, Melody Robinson, says she's done nothing wrong.
Robinson said she operates American Melody Carriages, and she said she's been driving for other carriage companies for 17 years.
She said the horse, named Daisy Bell, is perfectly healthy, with a shiny coat and clear eyes, even though she said the horse could stand to gain about a hundred pounds.
She said just because you can see a ribcage, doesn't mean something's wrong.
"Horses are like us," Robinson said. "They have different body builds. Some can eat anything they want and be skinny, others can look at a cookie and gain ten pounds."
Melody said she met with both Metro Animal Care and Control and the Metro Transportation Licensing Commission on Tuesday, who told her the horses are healthy.
Officials with the MACC revisited Melody the next day and issued two citations.
