In the race for super-fast internet in Nashville, the Google Fiber rollout was previously snared in legal trouble and installation problems. It was even blamed for several water main breaks around town.
But now, Google Fiber representatives said they're trying out a new technology that may put all those headaches behind them.
It's a process called micro-trenching -- a small line is cut into the road, only four inches deep and less than an inch wide. The fiber line goes inside, before it's topped with asphalt.
A Google Fiber spokesperson said the new process will allow them to reach more customers.
Metro Public Works officials said Google Fiber has taken out 1200 micro-trenching permits in Nashville in the last couple months.
