A driver plowed into an MTA bus stop Wednesday evening, demolishing the canopy and injuring two people, one seriously.

It happened just before 5 p.m. at the bus stop at 3046 Dickerson Pike. According to police, Brandon Eugene Mundy, 23, was driving South when his car left the right side of the road, plowing into the bus stop and people waiting.

Two men were injured. Carlton Sparrow, 56, was hit and sustained severe injuries that could cost him his leg. Jason Clifton had his feet ran over. Clifton's sister-in-law, Donna Clifton, said he had broken pins in his ankles and a broken nose.

Donna works at the Family Dollar across the street and came out to see the crash after it happened.

"I didn't even know my brother was hit, I was recording and he starts yelling my name from across the street," said Donna. "So, I run across the street. I was in protect mode at that point. He was just pouring blood from his face."

Other witnesses saw the suspect get out of his car and start to walk away from the scene. Surveillance video shows him walking into a parking lot talking on a phone before police show up and take him into custody.

Antonio Gibson saw the crash happen. He said Sparrow was pinned under the suspect's car.

"The car just came from off the left had side, doing between 40 to 50 miles per hour and hit the bus station and [dragged] that man couple of feet from where he was sitting at," said Gibson.

Gibson said he took off his t-shirt and wrapped it around the victim's head to stop some of the bleeding.

Police were on scene in seconds according to witnesses.

According to an affidavit, Mundy was showing signs of intoxication. His eyes were constricted and he told police he had an opioid addiction and was seeking treatment. Police drew his blood at the hospital.

Mundy is also accused of having a child in the car at the time of the accident. Witnesses described a boy as young as 9-years-old walking around the crash scene trying to help after it happened.

Mundy faces child neglect charges, vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries.

Mundy also has an extensive criminal history dating back beyond 2015. There are several burglary charges, possession and an assault charge.

He's currently in custody and has a court date Friday.

Sparrow's condition was not available Thursday evening, but Clifton was released from the hospital according to his family.
