Community leaders and volunteers came together to rally around girls in Metro Schools.

As part of the Nashville Period Project Challenge, feminine hygiene products were donated and sorted in Nashville.

Organizers said in many cases, girls miss school while they are on their period because they don’t have access to the necessary products, and they want to make sure that doesn't happen.

“By providing these products in school, girls can stay in school,” said Dr. Lakisha Simmons, Executive Director of the Achiever Academy. “We all know when girls thrive, our world is a better place. They can provide for their families and their communities, as well.”

More than 200,000 items were collected with the help of 35 organizations and countless people across the city.
