Flood watch national weather service jackson ky 642 am est sun feb 11 2018 estill-powell-menifee-rockcastle-jackson-pulaski-laurel-wayne- mccreary-whitley-knox-bell-harlan-elliott-morgan-johnson-wolfe- magoffin-floyd-lee-breathitt-knott-owsley-perry-clay-leslie- letcher-martin-pike- including the cities of irvine, ravenna, clay city, stanton, frenchburg, brodhead, mount vernon, mckee, annville, burnside, somerset, london, monticello, stearns, whitley city, corbin, williamsburg, barbourville, middlesboro, pineville, cumberland, harlan, sandy hook, west liberty, paintsville, campton, salyersville, prestonsburg, wheelwright, beattyville, jackson, hindman, pippa passes, booneville, hazard, manchester, hyden, jenkins, whitesburg, inez, coal run, elkhorn city, pikeville, and south williamson 642 am est sun feb 11 2018 ...flood watch remains in effect until 3 pm est this afternoon... the flood watch continues for * portions of east central kentucky, northeast kentucky, south central kentucky, and southeast kentucky, including the following areas, in east central kentucky, elliott, estill, menifee, and powell. in northeast kentucky, johnson and martin. in south central kentucky, laurel, mccreary, pulaski, rockcastle, wayne, and whitley. in southeast kentucky, bell, breathitt, clay, floyd, harlan, jackson, knott, knox, lee, leslie, letcher, magoffin, morgan, owsley, perry, pike, and wolfe. * until 3 pm est this afternoon * a prolonged period of rain, moderate at times, will continue across the watch area through this afternoon. an additional 0.25 to 0.75 inches of accumulation will be possible during this time, with some locally higher amounts possible. * prolonged periods of rain, combined with ground that has already been saturated from recent rains, will continue the threat of flooding along area creeks, streams, and in low lying areas. in addition, rises into flood stage has occurred along the larger rivers, especially in the cumberland, kentucky, and big sandy river basins. many of these rivers will likely remain above flood stage through at least monday. precautionary/preparedness actions... a flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. you should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
