Thanks to hundreds of volunteers, several area schools got a facelift.

It was all part of an effort by the United Way.

Part of the United Way's mission has been education, and Friday, they put that into practice through their Hometown Huddle program.

More than 300 volunteers helped to re-furbish school playgrounds.

"We thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to come out and see what we could do in the play areas of the school and not so much just the education portion,” Chase Salas said. “We also like to have a good time at United Way of Rutherford and Cannon counties so we thought this would be the perfect mission for us, the perfect project for what we're trying to do here."

In all, 16 school playgrounds throughout Rutherford and Cannon counties benefited from Hometown Huddle.
