The Blue Angels jet that will be the centerpiece of the Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial has arrived in Smyrna.

On Wednesday, Smyrna city officials shared photos of the jet that had been loaded up in preparation of heading to Tennessee.

The plane arrived in Smyrna shortly after noon Thursday. The public was invited to welcome the plane to town.

The Blue Angel F/A-18C Hornet is similar to the jet flown by United States Marine Corps Captain Kuss. It’s on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.

The jet was loaded up on a flatbed truck and was sent to the airport’s terminal and business center on Doug Warpoole Road.

The jet was set to remain in an airport hangar until the memorial construction begins. It will then be placed on permanent display.

The memorial has been planned for Lee Victory Recreation Park on Sam Ridley Parkway East along the greenway.
