A man has been killed by Kentucky State Police troopers in Metcalfe County, Kentucky.

The incident began around 12:57 a.m. Sunday just four miles east of Edmonton at a home on Junior Caffee Road.

Reports stated a woman called authorities saying she’d been in a fight with her boyfriend. She added the boyfriend, later identified as 38-year-old Kenny Tomblin, was outside shooting a gun into the air. Dispatch confirmed they could hear the shots in the background.

Local officials went to the scene and requested backup from KSP troopers.

A deputy encountered Tomblin at the scene and had a verbal exchange with him. That’s when Tomblin went into the home and came back out armed with a rifle.

Tomblin did not comply with the troopers’ commands to put the firearm down as he approached them.

Tomblin fired the weapon, which was when troopers returned fire, killing Tomblin.

Officials confirmed no one else was injured during the incident.

The investigation remained ongoing.
