A suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting in White County.

Deputies with the White County Sheriff's Office tried to stop 26-year-old Koltlee Whitson who was driving a Chevrolet truck. He had an outstanding warrant out of Putnam County.

They chased him for a total of 13 miles in Sparta. Investigators said Whitson was firing his weapon during the pursuit.

He drove to his parent’s farm on Post Oak Bridge Road in White County, where Whitson turned his vehicle around.

At that point, Whitson reportedly pointed a gun at a deputy who had gotten out of his vehicle to try to stop him. The deputy fired his gun as Whitson drove by.

He was shot at least twice.

Whitson continued to drive toward the intersection of Post Oak Bridge and Walnut Grove Road, where he rammed the truck into an unmarked police vehicle.

He was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga where he later died.

Sources have confirmed to NewsChannel 5 that five guns were found in his truck.

The name of the officer has not yet been released. The investigation was ongoing.
