18-Year-Old Dies After Murfreesboro Shooting

An 18-year-old has died following a shooting at a Murfreesboro apartment complex.

Murfreesboro Police officers responded to the shooting at the complex on the 1800 block of Northfield Boulevard around 8 p.m. 

Officers said the victim was shot in the chest and was given CPR on the way to the hospital. NewsChannel 5 has since learned that the victim has died.  

Witnesses reported hearing at least five gunshots at the apartment.

Police and a K-9 unit from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office was searching for the gunman.

At last check, police were questioning a witness in the case. They found him covered in blood hiding in the bushes at the apartment complex shortly after the shooting. He was barefoot and apparently suffered cuts to his feet and legs while running for cover. 

Police said there are no suspects in the case. 

The incident is the latest in a string of recent shootings in the same general area. As a result, police have stepped up patrols.
