In an effort to get all Nashvillians involved in the city's economic success Mayor Megan Barry has teamed up with former Tennessee Titan Eddie George to form a new advisory committee.

The Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee led by Dr. Shawn Joseph of Metro Nashville Public Schools and George was created to find ways to financially empower the local community.

The former running back was made part of the new committee to focus on financial education.

"I look forward to - along with the other subcommittee members - to bring resources, my knowledge and experience to make this a truly robust program," said George.

George said that through his football career he learned how to keep track of his finances and plan for a financial future. He said he hopes that he can help others in the Nashville area do the same.

Dr. Joseph chimed in by saying he's going to work with the youth in Nashville to try to help them get their first jobs and learn how to manage their money from the start.

The effort began with a check presentation from Voya Retirement that will help fund the Mayor's Financial Empowerment Center -- and the hope was that the committee can continue to build off of that center's success.

"What we want to do is continue to be a warm and welcoming place that attracts new residents, new businesses, but also makes sure that the folks who live here now are also enjoying a piece of that economic prosperity," said Mayor Barry.
