One person was killed in a crash involving an SUV and a delivery truck.

Officials said the wreck happened around 3:55 a.m. Sunday on Murfreesboro Pike at Ezell Pike.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Marcus Frankie Cook.

Authorities said it appeared an International delivery truck, which was owned by Ryder Truck Rental and was being driven by 53-year-old James Edward Corley, was stopped on Ezell Pike waiting to turn left onto Murfreesboro Pike after finishing a delivery to the post office.

Police said as the delivery truck crossed the eastbound lanes of traffic, the SUV hit the truck’s side causing the truck to overturn.

Cook, the driver of the SUV, died at the scene. Officials said Corley was not injured.

Authorities confirmed both men were wearing seatbelts.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation. Officials said they were trying to determine whether the truck failed to yield and whether the headlights on the SUV were turned on.

Police said they would also be conducting a speed analysis.
