Nissan Worker Dies After Incident At Smyrna Plant

An employee at the Nissan Assembly Plant in Smyrna has died following an incident at work. 

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the plant located on Nissan Drive.

The cause and extent of the worker's injuries were not released. However, Nissan officials have confirmed the employee has died. 

They released the following statement:  

“We can confirm that a Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant employee was involved in an incident yesterday and transported to the hospital where he passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family during this difficult time. The safety and well-being of our team members continues to be Nissan’s top priority.”

The worker’s name has not been released. No additional information was available. 

Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials were notified Thursday morning and responded to the plant.

TOSHA released the following statement:

"They are compiling information about the incident to determine what circumstances led to this workplace fatality.  The final report on this investigation will be available for review when it is completed within four to six weeks. Nissan followed Tennessee OHSA requirements for reporting the original incident and subsequent fatality."
