Red Cross Opens Shelters After Widespread Flooding

Shelters and an evacuation center have been opened by the Tennessee Red Cross following severe weather.

According to those with the Red Cross, the following shelters have been made available:

  • Stewart County -Big Rock Baptist Church (Clean-Up Kits being distributed) and Big Rock Fire Station (Evacuation Center)
  • Sumner County - Hartsville Pike Church of Christ (Shelter)
  • Houston County - Tennessee Ridge Independent Baptist Church (Shelter)

Red Cross officials also released the following list of tips for families to prepare for disasters like flooding:

  • Download the free Red Cross Flood App to your mobile device by clicking here.
  • Create and practice a Disaster Plan
  • Assemble an Emergency Preparedness Kit
  • Heed Flood Warnings
  • Relocate During Flood Warnings
  • Keep children and pets out of the water, as they are curious and can be harmed by flowing or contaminated water.
  • Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood danger.
