Police in Smyrna said they’re searching for a suspect who stole money from a Publix grocery store.

The incident happened around 4:50 p.m. Friday when the suspect entered the store and waited for his accomplice to call the customer service desk.

When the employee answered the call, the accomplice said the suspect was armed and demanded the employee give him all the money from the cash drawers.

Authorities said the clerk complied, and as the suspect left the store, a customer attempted to stop him.

The suspect was able to get away and fled in a vehicle driven by another person.

Officials described the suspect as a black male in his early 20’s with a thin build, standing around 6’ tall. He was wearing a black-zippered hoodie, black baseball cap with white stripes across the front, blue jeans, sunglasses, and blue Nike tennis shoes.

Police said the suspect may have injuries on the left side of his face due to the confrontation with the store customer.

Anyone with information on this crime or the suspect’s identity has been asked to call Detective Allan Nabours at 615-267-5434.
