Authorities were called to Williamson County after a woman’s body was found in a rural area.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Monday along Cross Keys Road in Bethesda.

Officials with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said neighbors riding a 4-wheelers found the body about 60-feet off the roadway.

It's unknown how long the remains had been there.

"It's a rural area where you've got a dirt lane that goes up off the main road,” said Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Long. “It used to be an old house that's been torn down [and] there are a couple of barns in the area."

The woman’s identity was not known. The Medical Examiner would have to determine the cause of death.

Investigators said there aren't any missing persons cases in Williamson County that match that description. They're currently checking with surrounding counties.

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist with the case.

No additional details were available.
