A man was arrested police said he fired a gun toward police and an apartment building while naked in Rutherford County.

Witnesses said it was amazing no one was killed.

Murfreesboro police were called to respond to a man with no clothing running around in broad daylight firing a gun in a busy area just off Lascasass Pike.

"It was one of those things where you think: What did I just see? It was one of those what happened kind of moments," said Tammy Brown who couldn't believe her eyes Saturday morning.

She witnessed the man running across the busy road right past Woodfin Funeral Home. Her husband Josh Brown saw it too.

"Absolutely no clothing, gun in hand," said Josh.

Murfreesboro police said the man, identified as 21-year-old Cadari Lindsey, ran straight to a nearby apartment complex.

Witnesses said he was screaming and waving the gun in the air, and then started shooting at least 8 rounds into the air.

"When officers confronted the individual he immediately began firing shots, not directly at the officers. He did wave the gun at the officers," said Sgt. Kyle Evans, who added police kept their distance until they noticed the gun had cycled to a locked-back position.

"Basically that's a tell tale sign that the gun has ran out of ammunition," said Evans.

That's when officers moved in, using a taser gun to take Lindsey down. Only then, did they notice he had at some point accidently shot himself in leg.

No one else was injured or killed. Josh Brown saw it all and said officers used amazing restraint in defusing a potentially deadly situation.

"The patience and care and concern the police showed went beyond the call of duty," said Brown.

The suspect remained in hospital for treatment of the self-inflicted gunshot wound to his knee, but was expected to be taken to the Rutherford county jail on 8 counts of aggravated assault on police officers after being released from the hospital.

Police said Cadari told them he may have used some drugs laced with something he didn't expect which led to his behavior.

Cadari is a former MTSU student who at one time actually worked on campus with the student patrol.
