One person was killed and an assistant district fire chief was in critical condition after a crash in the Joelton area.
Officials said an SUV from the Nashville Fire Department and another vehicle were involved in a crash near 5335 Whites Creek Pike around 8 a.m. Monday.
Several crews from the fire department were on the scene.
Emergency dispatchers said the firefighter, identified as 43-year-old Assistant District Fire Chief Lisa Weakley, was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was being treated for broken bones at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.
One person in the other vehicle, identified as 33-year-old Cassandra Wilson, was killed in the crash. Authorities said she lived in the 5300 block of Whites Creek Pike and was on her way home from work at the time of the crash.
Officials said Wilson allegedly crossed lanes and hit the SUV head-on.
Assistant Chief Weakley was headed to headquarters in downtown Nashville when the wreck happened.
Whites Creek Pike was closed near Bear Hollow Road while police processed the scene and gathered evidence about what happened.
