Pastor Charged With Theft From State

A local pastor and another man were accused of securing state grant money for an addiction treatment program that did not exist.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Clinton Lewis, a pastor at Hopewell Baptist Church, and Andre Trice fraudulently received more than $60,000 in grant money from the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

The money was meant for an addiction recovery program the problem is many of the people listed as clients were either dead or incarcerated.

Both men were charged with four counts of theft.
