Activists held a rally protesting the "Petland Bill," which they say would protect puppy mills.
The bill is scheduled to be up for discussion Thursday. On Wednesday, demonstrators were at War Memorial Plaza speaking out against the legislation.
The bill would require pet stores to cover some vet bills if new owners discover their dog is sick.
However, there is also language on the bill that would stop municipalities from enforcing ordinances that regulate where dogs sold at pet stores come from, which is what the activists want changed.
The measure has been nicknamed the "Petland Bill" after a national chain that has been accused of using puppy mills. Petland has denied those claims.
