An unarmed security guard was critically injured in an early-morning shooting at a Nashville pharmacy.

The incident happened early Monday morning at a 24-hour Rite Aid on West End Avenue.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the suspect entered the store at 4:08 a.m. and approached three employees – one of whom was the security guard, identified as 22-year-old Garion Bogard.

Police said the suspect demanded money and told the clerks he should “shoot both of [them] for moving slow."

It's unclear at this time why Bogard was shot. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The suspect was described as being 5’8” tall with a thin build. He wore a black beanie hat with a black bandana to cover his face and was draped in a blanket with hearts and X’s and O’s.

Police said he fled with cash in a bag. The shooting remained under investigation.
