Police have been called out to investigate a second attack in less than a month at an outdoor spot popular with families. There were several similarities in both attacks.

Officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department said in both cases, people walking along the Murfreesboro Greenway were hit on the head from behind and were knocked unconscious. None of the victims got a look at their attacker.

When the victims regained their senses, both discovered they had been robbed.

The first assault happened on December 11, and the second incident took place Sunday.

Police have not said whether the two attacks were definitely related, but neighbors who use the greenway said they have taken notice.

“That would make me a little leery to be out here by myself, or running with headphones on where I’m not paying attention to who or what's around me at all times,” said Eric Smith, who runs on the greenway several days a week.

Officials said the victim over the weekend had another run-in with police later that day. They said he walked out on a restaurant bill that night at a local restaurant.

It was not clear yet if that was related to the earlier attack report.

Police said people who use the greenway should be alert to their surroundings and report anything suspicious.
