The mayor of Algood said he's canned two city employees, and accepted the resignation of a police officer following an investigation.

Mayor Scott Bilbrey said the investigation revealed scandal and cover-ups among the city's elected leaders.

Bilbrey said Police Chief Gary Harris began investigating claims that Algood Sergeant Justin Medlin was misusing his police-issued phone, and he said the Chief found that Medlin had sent and received pornographic sexting images between him and several women, some of them married, and had received one from one of the city council members, Jennifer Green.

The Mayor said Green and two other council members tried to get Chief Harris fired to stop the investigation, after learning of the mounting evidence against Sergeant Medlin.

"The people of this community doesn't deserve this going on," Harris said. "It gives the entire community a black eye and I don't feel like people in this town deserve that."

We reached out to Sergeant Medlin, as well as council members Jennifer Green and Carolyn Norris.

None of them immediately responded to our requests for an interview.
