The cause of death for a man originally thought to have died in a crash on Ellington Parkway has been changed to a fatal gunshot wound.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said after staff at the Medical Examiner's Officer examined 29-year-old Ryan Scott Trent's body, they determined that he died from the gunshot wound and not the crash.

Trent was driving a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that ran off of Ellington Parkway’s northbound lanes into a tree line at Briley Parkway Wednesday.

A passerby noticed the crashed pickup truck in the trees at 2:44 a.m. and telephoned 911.

Detectives were working to learn more about Trent, including where he may have been early this morning. They also wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen the pickup truck run off the roadway.

Anyone with information was asked to call the East Precinct Investigations at 615-862-7525 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
