FRANKFORT, Mich. (WTVF) — A 12-year-old boy from Manchester went missing while on a family vacation to Lake Michigan this week.

The Benzie County, Michigan Sheriff's Office said a group of 13 family members were on their "dream vacation" when the boy was swept off a pier on Monday afternoon.

Two children went with an aunt on the north pier when a large wave swept all three into the inner waters of the pier, the sheriff's office said. The aunt was able to grab one of the children, but the boy was swept out farther and was seen disappearing under the water.

Several first responders conducted a nine-hour search for the boy on Monday but had to call off the search due to weather conditions. On Wednesday, the search will resume when weather conditions allow divers into the water, the sheriff's office said.
