13-year-old charged with attempted murder in Springfield playground shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say a 13-year-old is charged with attempted first-degree murder after he shot another teenager at a playground area in Springfield.

The call came in around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Sleepy Hollow subdivision. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.

Springfield police say a 15-year-old was shot in the chest and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.

According to investigators, the 13-year-old initially left the scene, but later came back and turned himself in.

He’s been transported to Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Facility, pending a detention hearing.
