NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Folks were clearing old instruments out of their basements and garages Saturday to donate for a pretty good reason.
Thomas Hill, age 15, of Boy Scout Troop 11 was having a musical instrument drive for his Eagle Scout project.
He's hoping to help out area middle schools in need of instruments to keep their band programs alive.
It's a personal project for Thomas. He learned to play the violin when he was only three, and he has wanted to make sure other children who want to learn to play an instrument have a chance as well.
“In the Music City everybody has, I mean not everybody, but a lot of people have instruments sitting in their basements and attics and closets, and just if we can get them out of those closets and into the hands of kids who need them,” Hill said.
He collected 24 instruments Saturday during the drive bringing the total to 42 for his project.
He's still taking donations. Thomas said he’ll be happy to pick up instruments from your home. He can be reached through email at tfh710@gmail.com, or those interested can visit his project's Facebook page by clicking here.
Thomas has planned to deliver the instruments to the schools on September 1.
