NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 1,600 volunteers came out and donated close to 5,000 service hours in Saturday's Hands On Nashville Day.

The volunteer event focused on projects to enhance and support the learning environments in 31 Metro schools.

The people who helped did everything from repainting walls to improving school gardens.

Some of our staff at NewsChannel 5 helped out at J. E. Moss Elementary School, one of the schools with the greatest need.

“We're so happy to have all of these wonderful partners come in and make our school warm and welcoming for a perfect place for teaching and learning, so it’s nice to have a great place for the kids to walk into and feel comfortable and clean and just a nice little facelift for he,” said Leah Dalrymple, of J. E. Moss Elementary School.

The time volunteers donated Saturday made an estimated $110,000 economic impact saving Metro Nashville Public Schools a great deal of resources.
