NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Many travelers have been taking detours downtown as crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation continued work on the Fast Fix 8 project to replace bridges on the south loop.
This weekend’s closure involved the Jo Johnston construction site. It was the first of 13 weekend closures.
Those with TDOT have urged everyone to remain calm when having to take detours around downtown. That was because this was the first tear down and building of one of the four bridges in the project.
The section of the south loop west of downtown where Interstate 40 and Interstate 65 split to the second split south of downtown has been completely shut down.
TDOT officials said they have worked with emergency management to make sure emergency personnel have been able to make it where they need to go.
Drivers should expect another closure next weekend. No word has been released on when the other weekend closures will happen.
