According to police, a 62-year-old woman was taken into custody after allegedly keeping children in pet kennels in the back of her truck.

According to WREG, a concerned citizen captured a video and shared it online. The video showed two children getting out of the kennels Saturday evening on Elvis Presley Boulevard.

Memphis officers arrested 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks. She was charged with two counts of child endangerment.

The woman reportedly admitted to driving from Whitehaven to Collierville with her grandchildren, ages eight and nine, sitting in the back of her truck in kennels.

The children told officials their grandmother had said for them to get in the kennels when there was no room inside the truck earlier that day, according to WREG.

Police said the children also said the kennels were very hot because there were no vents for air.

Neighbors said they are shocked, adding the woman is a very nice lady and a woman of faith who had just bought two puppies. That’s why the kennels were in her truck.

The investigation remained ongoing.
