NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — No charges have been filed after a fatal shootout Monday evening in North Nashville.

Police say Tru Booker admitted to fatally shooting Markus Cantrell in the 3100 block of Ewingwood Drive after a drug deal that turned into an attempted robbery.

Booker, who was shot in the forearm, says he shot Cantrell in self-defense in an interview with detectives.

Cantrell was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center following the shooting.

Police say no firearms, controlled substances or cash were at the scene when police arrived.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and will present their findings to the District Attorney's Office.
