MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Prosecutors say a second Memphis teen has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a construction contractor.
The Shelby County district attorney's office says 18-year-old Corey Sandifer also pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery Thursday. A judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder charge and a concurrent sentence of 12 years on the robbery charge.
Authorities say Sandifer and a co-defendant, 17-year-old Derek Cunningham Jr., robbed John "J. P." Shelley of his iPad and cash as Shelley met with a construction worker at a home in a Memphis neighborhood on Oct. 4, 2013.
Authorities say Cunningham shot Shelley during the robbery. Cunningham has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with no parole for second-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
